Apocalypse is considered to be the first mutant, at least in current Marvel universe canon. He was born in a city named Akkaba in Egypt, and he was left to die in the desert because of his strange skin color.

He was found by a tribe called Sandstormers and named him En Sabah Nur which means “The First One”. It was there that he learned the philosophy of “survival of the fittest” that would become his mantra in life. After he became an adult he was enslaved and forced into labor by Ozymandias. He became a rebel which got him almost killed but the manifestation of his mutant powers saved him. Using his powers he overthrow Ozymandias.

He then found the technology left behind by Kang the Conqueror (in the persona of Rama-Tut), which he would use to regenerate his body and live for thousands of years. During this time Apocalypse would encounter the Celestials, who grant him his power armor and name him the custodian of evolution on Earth.

In modern days, Apocalypse is awakened from a state of hibernation by Cable (a time traveler and his nemesis). Apocalypse begins to recruit his Four Horsemann and he tries to destroy the earth and he collect The Twelve, but is unable to contain their power. His body burns up and he tries to merge with Nate Grey, but ends up merging with Cyclops instead. He remains inside of Cyclops’s consciousness until Jean Grey and Professor Xavier tear him out with their combined, psychic strength.

A young clone of him was found by Wolverine’s X-Force team. He was named Evan (codenamed Genesis), and now he is a student at the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning, hoping to not become the monster everyone fears he will be.
