The $2.5 billion blockbuster franchise could continue in the form of prequel films, after Lionsgate vice chairman Michael Burns dropped a huge hint on December 8.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2

Lionsgate Vice Chairman Michael Burns compared The Hunger Games to Harry Potter and insisted that it would “live on and on and on”, according to The Hollywood Reporter. At the UBS Global Media in New York, he went on to say: “The one thing that kids say they missed (from the Mockingjay films) was there were no arenas (where contestants like Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss battled each other). If we went backwards, there obviously would be arenas.

However, Burns added to Variety: “Whatever extensions of The Hunger Games brand we pursue, the intent is not to glorify violence by arbitrarily telling arena stories, but to continue Suzanne Collins’s exploration of the concepts of just war theory.”

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2’s opening was the lowest debut of any Hunger Games movie making only $101 million, but it has made $523 million at the worldwide box office.
