King’s Quest is an episodic video game developed by The Odd Gentleman and published by Sierra Entertainment and distributed by Activision. If you heard about this franchise or even played it, maybe, you are asking “why is this not King’s Quest IX?”. That is because this game is in no way a remake nor a sequel to the series but a complete new re-imagining of the original game. This is one of the many attempts to rekindle King’s Quest franchise.
As the old game was a point and click-er, this one is mirroring it because they are breaking this pattern. And by this I mean that the game is made as an adventure and the player has complete control of the character, Graham, in his quest for becoming a knight. As the creative director stated, King’s Quest drifts away from that point and click type of gameplay and converges to a more “one-button context”. So, basically, that means that you can interact with your environment and pick up items, gather, inspect. While inspecting the player has the option to switch to first person view so they can observe more details, which, in my opinion are crucial. Another cool feature is that, even if the gameplay is linear, the player can freely explore the levels of the game as they eventually open up.
The game is scheduled to be released in five parts that are connected to each other on a span of time between 2015 and 2016. Stay tuned for more updates and also check out Polygon page.
