According to the trailer, Captain Steven Hiller (Will Smith) died on April 27, 2007 when a military exercise goes wrong: “While test piloting the the Earth Space Defense’s first alien hybrid fighter, an unknown malfunction causes the untimely death of Col. Hiller.”
“Hiller’s valor in the War of 96 made him a beloved global icon whose selfless assault against the alien mother-ship lead directly to the enemy’s defeat. He is survived by his wife Jasmine and son Dylan.” It seems that we will not see the legendary Will Smith in the sequel. I personally think that if they had him in the movie, it would be so much better. Why? Because it’s Will Smith that’s why.
The movie is subtitled Resurgence and there’s a good reason for that. 20th Century Fox has also released the official plot description for Resurgence. “We always knew they were coming back. After Independence Day redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global catastrophe on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.”
What do you think about Resurgence? Will it be as good as the first movie? Let us know in the comments below. Independence Day: Resurgence opens in theaters on June 24 and is directed by Roland Emmerich, who was also behind the first Independence Day movie of 1996.
